Microvision At CES

Over the past few years there were tons of articles about Microvision's technology during CES, but this year I have yet to find one. I guess that could be because Microvision decided to showcase their technology privately this year. On the opening day of CES, Microvision posted a "recap and looking ahead" on their blog which highlighted their achievements during 2012, which included unveiling the new pico engine that utilizes direct green lasers, transitioning to "Image by PicoP" business model, Pioneers launch of the Cyber Navi HUD, and much more. I did manage to find two new videos which highlight all the possible uses of Microvision's display engine. My best guess would be that the videos were created for the closed door meetings at CES.

One interesting item that I did come across was Microsoft's IllumiRoom which utilizes a projector to enhance the entertainment experience. One of the key researchers behind IllumiRoom, Hrvoje Benko, collaborated with Chris Harrison in developing the OmniTouch, which utilized a Microvision projector and Microsoft. Kinect. Interesting to see that IllumiRoom also utilizes Microsoft Kinect and a projector. It seems Microsoft Research is busy at work utilizing projectors to enhance the user experience and my best guess is that if they ever do come to market with a product it wont be sold with a clunky projector. An embedded projector is the only way to go!
